Slap in the face...
Have you ever done something that was not quite up to par...and then later wondered why it all went bad for you? I was in Italian class, and I can admit it, on the last test I received a grade of 56% yeah I am woman enough to admit when I mess up! So here I am wondering if I can still pull an A...I talk to my professoressa (yeah see that's italian) and here she is telling me how to pass this class, "you need to make flash cards, maybe study the old tests, correct your wrong answers..."I get defensive, as we all would or do, and then I get frustrated. "Why can't this stuff just come to me like it does everyone else" And then I hear those booming words from heaven...
"Hey dipshit, wake up! Are you kidding me, you think that everyone in this class just automatically knew how to speak italian?! One day they just became fluent? Don't give me that crap about being too old, all minds should be exercised, no matter the age!..." Then I realize, that those booming words came from me...
Why do we do that, when did we as a society become so self-absorbed that unable to admit our own guiltiness? You see it everyday, people on trial, pleaing to lessen their sentence..."yeah I did it but just so you guys don't have to go through all the work of figuring it out, give me a lesser sentence" Are you kidding me?! When did this happen, what life changing event occurred that made people decide that they were not responsible for their actions. I hear the question almost daily, "what happened to this society, when did it all go down hill?" You wanna know the answer? The answer is that first time when a parent let their kid off of the hook for something they did, it taught the kid that they, among others, had no responsibility for their actions, it was the McDonalds court case when that crazy person spilled the coffee and then sued Mc-D's! Are you crazy? How did we get to be society of spineless pansies? When you look at yourself, can you say that you would gladly choose death over a life sentence in jail for a crime that you committed? Do you remember Socrates?....Do you know who Socrates was? The Greek philosopher that chose execution because his society had found him guilty of corrupting the young minds of Athens. They told him to leave the city and he could gladly live out the remainder of his life elsewhere...he stayed, he drank his hemlock and died...
All of you, my friends, relatives, and some of you unknowns, read this be aware, take a stance..."If you don't stand for something you will fall for anything..." heed these few words that I am giving you and learn them, live them, make them part of who you are, because without the ability, to take responsibility, we are doomed to a life of fruitless endeavors. Take this to heart, teach your kids, your friends.... If you can't say something to someone's face then don't say it at all, if you need to say something, however hurtful it might be, you better be able to say it to that person. If you mess up, apologize, you might not have been at fault this time, but then next time when you make a mistake, and it is your fault, it will make it easier to apologize. Life is hard, sometimes you get hurt, physically, mentally, emotionally...don't lay down and take it! Get back up and move forward! To stand still is to lose momentum...which eventually brings you to a halt...to come to a halt in life means death. Be responsible, please because before you know it the world as we know it will cease to exist.
The next generation needs something to learn from, I may not always have the answers, and I may not always know in which direction I am heading, but by the time I get there I will know that I did it on my own competence...
So here I am on my way to study my ass off, I will pass this class, it might not be with an A but at least I know that I will deserve what I earn!
